Port of Oakland Planning a Pop-up Container Yard

When COVID-19 started late 2019-2020, we had no idea that ~ two years later, we would still be struggling with the effects. Not only have we have seen the impacts in our personal lives, but businesses have had to re-think strategies and, in some cases, turn things entirely on their head to stay afloat. Some have managed; others, sadly, have not.

Our international supply chain continues to face massive problems throughout every country. Congestion of vessels not discharging on time, an influx of containers that don’t have truck drivers to pick up the containers, no space in container yards, no staff in container yards, no room in empty container yards; the list goes on.

To assist with congestion, some ports around the globe have built ‘pop-up container yards’, including the Port of Long Beach, the Port of Savannah, and now the Port of Oakland is committed to establishing a 25-acre ‘pop-up container yard’ to assist with truck turn around times and free chassis for exporters.
